Nepal's wholesale and retail trade sector reached around NPR 347.02 billion in GDP contribution in 2022 and is projected to keep growing. But goods can pass through manufacturer, dealer, distributor, local distributor, wholesaler, retailer, and finally consumer. In extreme cases, a Rs 10 farm-gate item can reach Rs 70 at the consumer end.
The compliance pressure is rising too. DoCSCP market monitoring has reported MRP violations, cash fines, and low strict-compliance rates among inspected firms. Cement, rods, vehicle parts, food items, footwear, construction materials, surgical goods, ready-made clothes, electronics, beauty products, and more face MRP transparency expectations.
Most small retailers and wholesalers still use notebooks, paper bills, Excel files, and phone-based ordering. The gap between modern chains and Kirana stores is now a technology gap: real-time inventory, billing compliance, supplier portals, customer loyalty, and branch analytics.
