Nepal's MFI Sector Has a Data Problem. That Data Problem Became a Portfolio Problem.

Nepal's microfinance sector serves people commercial banks often cannot reach. NRB's 2023/24 supervision data records 52 MFIs, 5,051 branches, 21,727 staff, and 2.66 million active borrowers. But the sector also faced a sharp portfolio-quality shock: public reporting shows NPL rising from 2.6% in mid-July 2022 to above 7% in later sector reviews.

NRB's study identified a structural failure: 418,722 borrowers had loans from two or more MFIs, representing Rs. 141 billion and 37.9% of the total loan portfolio. One borrower was reported with loans from 17 institutions. Without integrated credit information, field officers could not know total borrower exposure before disbursement.

Responsible microfinance at scale requires systems. When CIB checks happen before approval, PAR30/60/90 updates daily, center meetings are recorded digitally, and NRB returns are generated from live data, the failures that created the MFI crisis become detectable and preventable.

What This Means for Your MFI

Borrower debt exposure must be checked before disbursement
PAR cannot wait for monthly Excel calculation
Center meeting records must be auditable
NRB returns should not be manually assembled
Field collection should reconcile same day
Provisioning should update from live loan status

Software for Every Type of NRB-Licensed Microfinance Institution

Retail Microfinance Institution (Class D)

NRB-licensed retail MFIs are direct lenders to group borrowers using the Grameen center-group model. Our system manages group formation, center meetings, offline field collection, PAR ageing, and NRB quarterly returns.

NRB Unified Directives for Class D MFIs

Wholesale MFI & Apex Institution

Wholesale MFIs lend to retail MFIs and cooperatives. The system manages wholesale credit lines, partner limits, repayment from retail partners, and consolidated portfolio reporting.

Wholesale MFI and apex reporting workflows

Financial Intermediary NGO (FINGO)

FINGOs need member group management, savings mobilization, donor reporting, and lender coordination. Our platform supports NGO-MFI operations with compliance-ready records.

SWC, donor, and NRB coordination requirements

Small Farmers Cooperative (SFCL)

SFCLs sit between cooperative and microfinance workflows. The system supports member shares, DoC reporting, group loans, field collection, PAR tracking, and farmer member records.

SKBBL, DoC, and microfinance coordination

Urban Group Lending MFI

Urban MFIs face borrower mobility, higher multi-lending risk, and credit bureau exposure. Pre-disbursement CIB checks and borrower exposure flags help control risk.

CIB integration and multi-borrower flagging

Development Bank MFI Window

Development banks operating MFI windows need segregated portfolio tracking, group borrower management, and MFI-specific reporting alongside banking reports.

How We Implement Your MFI Management System

01

Discovery & Regulatory Review

We start by reviewing your NRB license conditions, loan products, branch network, field officer workflow, and reporting obligations. Every loan product's classification, provisioning, and reporting requirement is mapped before configuration begins.

02

System Configuration

We configure product definitions, interest rates, repayment schedules, group and center hierarchy, NRB reporting formats, and user roles. Your compliance officer and operations manager approve every configuration decision.

03

Data Migration

We migrate borrower records, active loan schedules, savings balances, group and center structure, and accounting data. Active loan schedules must match the old system exactly before go-live.

04

Field Officer Training

Field officers practice a simulated collection day using your real data: loading collection sheets, marking repayments, recording center meetings, and syncing at day-end.

05

Back-Office Training

Tellers, accountants, managers, and compliance officers receive role-specific training on transactions, GL, dashboards, PAR, and NRB return generation.

06

Parallel Run

For 2-4 weeks, old and new systems run together. PAR, provisioning, active loan schedules, branch summaries, and NRB return data are compared daily.

07

Go-Live & Hypercare

During the first month, support is dedicated and same-day. Your first NRB return from the new system is reviewed with your compliance officer before submission.

08

Post Go-Live Support & AMC

AMC covers NRB directive updates, reporting format changes, CIB API updates, security patches, bug fixes, feature additions, and system health reviews.

Microfinance Software Cost in Nepal

Sano MFI ya FINGO ko lagi NPR 2,00,000-4,00,000 parcha. 3,000-15,000 borrower bhako madhyam retail MFI ko lagi NPR 4,00,000-8,00,000. Thulo MFI ya wholesale institution ko lagi NPR 8,00,000+ parcha. Yo cost ma data migration, field officer training, ra go-live support samet hunchha.

How much does microfinance management software cost in Nepal?

Microfinance management software in Nepal costs between NPR 2,00,000 and NPR 8,00,000+ depending on borrower count, branch count, and modules required. A small MFI or FINGO starts at NPR 2,00,000-4,00,000. A medium retail MFI costs NPR 4,00,000-8,00,000. Large MFIs and wholesale institutions cost NPR 8,00,000 and above. All plans include data migration, training, and go-live support.

Can you migrate our data from our old MFI software or Excel?

Yes. We migrate borrower records, active loan schedules, savings balances, group and center structure, and accounting data from old MFI software, Excel files, or manually transcribed records. Go-live happens only after old and new system outputs reconcile.

Is your software compliant with NRB's requirements for Class D MFIs?

Yes. The system is built for NRB's Unified Directives for Class D MFIs, including loan classification, provisioning calculation, NRB quarterly returns, capital adequacy data, single-borrower limit checks, deprived-sector reporting, and CIB integration workflows.

Does the field collection app work offline?

Yes. The field collection app is offline-first. Loan officers load their collection sheet before going to the field, record repayments and center meetings offline, and sync automatically when connectivity returns.

Hamra field officer haru remote area ma kaam garchhan - internet hunta - offline kaam garnchha?

Hunchha. Hamro field collection app offline-first design ma baneko chha. Loan officer bihana collection sheet load garera field janchhan. Field ma repayment, center meeting, attendance sab offline record garchhan. Internet aayepachi automatic sync hunchha.

Do you integrate with Nepal's Credit Information Bureau (CIB)?

Yes. The system can integrate with Nepal's Credit Information Bureau API so every new loan application can be checked before disbursement. This helps flag existing borrowing and reduce multi-borrower risk.

How does PAR tracking work in the system?

Portfolio at Risk is calculated automatically every night. PAR30, PAR60, PAR90, and PAR180 are available by branch, loan product, center, and loan officer. Escalation workflows can trigger reminders and management alerts.

How long does MFI software implementation take?

A small MFI takes 10-14 weeks. A medium retail MFI takes 14-24 weeks. A large MFI or wholesale institution takes 24-40 weeks. Timelines include configuration, data migration, field training, parallel run, and go-live support.

Can the system generate NRB quarterly returns automatically?

Yes. NRB quarterly returns for Class D MFIs are generated from live system data in the required submission structure. Compliance officers review and reconcile before submission.

Do you offer on-premise deployment for MFIs?

Yes. For institutions that prefer to keep data on their own server, we offer on-premise deployment. We assist with server specification, setup, configuration, and ongoing maintenance.

How do I get a demo of the MFI system?
